(J) In your country, I heard that the main religion is the Islam, and we are very interested in it. Will you answer to our questions on the Islam? (B) Yes, in Brunei, most of the people follow the Islam. (J) How many Islam people are there in your school? (B) There are approximately 1200 students in my school, and they are all Muslims. There are some teachers who are not Muslims. Some of them are Chinese, Europeans and Indians. (J) What does “Islam” and “Muslim” mean? And do you think your religion is not just a belief in god, but a part of your life? (B) ”Islam” means “the submission to Allah, the god only”, and “Muslim” means “people who follow Allah”. Our religion is very much connected to our daily life. (J) Is it true that Islam people have to pray to Allah five times a day? (B) We Muslims have to pray five times a day as well as on the celebration day of hari raya puasa and hari raya haji once a year. Wherever we are, we have to stop any activities for a few minutes to pray,and we have to wash or clean ourselves before praying. Most of the Muslims in Brunei is going to Mekkah in Saudi Arabia every year for the haaj. (J) Is reading Qu’ran duty of Islam? (B) Yes, ever since we were children, we were taught to read Qu’ran at religions schools. |
